#PeriodPower: 5 Tips For A Happier Period

Disclosure: Today’s post is sponsored by U by Kotex and SweetSpot Labs, but my love for their products are all my own!

intro

Let’s face it, periods just aren’t fun. I eat virtually everything in sight, my mood goes from one extreme to another in a matter of seconds, and don’t even get me started on the physical symptoms (cramps, headaches, bloating, BLEH). I’m pretty sure I speak for every woman out there when I say that those 3-7 days of agony we endure each month bring out the absolute worst in us. Fortunately, there are ways to make this taxing week a little more bearable, not just for the ladies, but for all of those around us. It’s one of those unavoidable processes of nature that we can’t alter, so we might as well embrace it. Next time you find yourself dealing with the unpleasant side effects of your monthly friend, remember these 6 tips to help you have a happier + more comfortable period.

1. Take a mental health day (or a few).

If you’re lucky enough to work from home, you can get away with parking yourself on the couch in a bathrobe all day while you moan and groan about cramps. On the contrary, if you are working a 9-5 job Monday through Friday, this would be a perfect time to utilize one of those sick days you’ve accrued over the last year. Don’t have any left? Well, I’ve heard that Google has a whole slue of excuses to use when you need to call out ‘sick’. Not that I would know, or anything.

2. Get glammed up.

It’s no secret that when you look your best, you also feel your best. I never, ever leave the house without my lipstick + mascara. I’m pretty comfortable sporting a bare face for the most part, but I do feel more confident wearing makeup. Plus, it never fails that every time you leave the house with none on, you run into your ex boyfriend/worst enemy/old childhood friend. I’d rather be safe than sorry.

3. Treat yo’self.

Give me all the chocolate and leave me alone. No, but really. Indulge in some serious sweets, if that’s your thing. If you’re not into eating your body weight in sugar, bananas, which are full of potassium to help battle menstrual cramps, also make for a delicious, healthy snack. Get a much needed pedicure and/or massage. Relax, unwind, and dedicate some time to yourself, because you deserve it.

4. Make sure you are adequately prepared.

Sometimes your period can catch you off guard, which is why I always keep feminine products tucked away in my beauty bag, in case of emergency. I use U by Kotex because they are fun (just look at the cutesy designs on the packaging), feminine, and reliable. They come in a variety of different forms, shapes, and sizes, so finding a product that works for you should be effortless. As an added bonus, you can head over to your local Target for a super sweet deal: purchase any two U by Kotex or SweetSpot Labs products and receive a free deluxe sample. Yasssss.

5. Stay fresh and clean.

I shower about twice a day on a regular basis, but even more so during that time of the month. One of my absolute favorite products to use is SweetSpot Labs‘s Gentle Feminine Wash. These come in an array of different scents (the product pictured is grapefruit) and can actually be used to wash and moisturize your entire body. By using Target’s Cartwheel app, you can save 15% on any U by Kotex and SweetSpot Labs product for a limited time. Win!
