How to Host the Perfect Date Night In

Summer is all about having fun, sharing laughs, and celebrating togetherness. As a Florida native, I prefer to spend the majority of my free time at the beach, attempting to stay cool in the sweltering heat. June is undoubtedly our hottest month, and in a centralized city like Orlando, temperatures can easily reach the 100’s. With that being said, one of my favorite ways to celebrate togetherness during the summer is to host an indoor date night. In my experience, I’ve found that these can be just as fun as a wild night out on the town, and as an added bonus, you don’t have to spend hours getting primped and fancy. I’m a huge advocate for yoga pants, so any activity that allows me to wear them freely is one that I enjoy. The next time you decide to plan a romantic date night for two, opt to stay home instead. Your significant other and your bank account will thank you. Here are a couple of fun and creative ideas to help you host the perfect date night in for you and your beau:

Have an all-night movie marathon.

Put the Netflix away for one night (I know, binge-watching a series is like a full-time job all on it’s own), and pull out those classics that you haven’t watched in years. Airplane, The Wizard of Oz, and Gone With The Wind are arguably a few of the best movies ever directed. Surely, you can’t be serious? I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley. I’m also a huge fan of chick flicks—if you’re able to quote Mean Girls from beginning to end, we should probably be best friends. If you’re not a movie buff and/or don’t have a collection hidden away somewhere at home, you can find quite the selection at any local Redbox kiosk. This is 2016, so you could probably rent one online somewhere (Amazon, YouTube, etc.) if you really wanted to. The point is to break away from your every-day mundane schedule, and make the night feel out of the ordinary.

Set up a romantic picnic in the backyard.

Whether you put the effort into  cooking a full three-course meal for your sweetie, or you opt for take-out, you have the ability to create a whimsical environment in your own backyard with a few basic components. You’ll need some nice plates, silver wear, napkins, candles, a cozy blanket for the two of you to sit on, and of course, sustenance. Get creative with the set-up! If you’re really trying to get on their good side, you can even throw some rose petals into the mix. I guarantee they’ll appreciate you for this one.

Dance the night away.

If you’re an old soul like myself, turn on some Frank Sinatra and travel back in time for one night. If you’d enjoy something a little more upbeat, you can never wrong with the Backstreet Boys. You may not have the groove that they do, and that’s okay! Not knowing how to dance is not a valid excuse, because we all know that the only way to get better at something is to keep trying. If you find yourself failing, dust yourself off and try again, try again (sorry, bad 90’s TLC reference). This fun indoor date night activity will inevitably generate large amounts of laughter and smiles, while simultaneously bringing you and your significant closer together (literally).

Share a sweet treat together.

Ice cream has always been my go-to dessert. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE baking; but there is just something about a bowl of rich and creamy ice cream that brings me back to my happy, care-free childhood days. My boyfriend is a bit more adventurous in the food sphere, so he typically choose to delve into the more exotic flavors. For our last date night, he picked out EDY’S® SLOW CHURNED® Caramel Delight Light Ice Cream, while I decided to indulge in some good, old fashioned EDY’S® SLOW CHURNED® Vanilla Light Ice Cream. EDY’S ice cream is simply made, and simply delicious. Both of these delectable flavors are made with real ingredients, fresh milk and cream, and do not contain GMO’s, artificial colors and flavoring, or rBST. Sharing a tasty dessert with each other is one of my favorite ways that we celebrate our togetherness!

You can find this delectable goodness at your local Walmart, located on the frozen food aisle.

Two words: board games!

When’s the last time you stayed up all night trying to solve a murder mystery? I’m talking about Clue, of course! Board games have become severely underrated since technology took over, but I’m still a huge proponent of them. I have fond memories of playing classics like Monopoly, Life and Chess for hours with my family. I’m pretty sure I never won a single game, but it was always enjoyable, nonetheless. Test your spelling skills with a competitive game of Scrabble, and make the loser cook breakfast!

Transform your living room into a pillow fort.

You are never too old for this. I repeat, you are NEVER too old for this. Drag all of your furniture together, throw a blanket on top, and scatter pillows all over the floor beneath it. Sit in your pillow fort for the remainder of the night, telling stories + jokes and reminiscing on all the good times you two have shared together. If anyone attempts to enter the pillow fort unwarranted, make them give you the password.

Get crafty.

Peruse Pinterest to find a fun project that the two of you would enjoy doing together. Some of the better ones I’ve found include decorating mason jars, painting coasters, and curating holiday wreaths. I’ve been wanting to re-stain my coffee table for the longest time, and I think this would be a great date night activity! If DIY’s aren’t exactly your forte, you can always head to your local home improvement store and pick out a funky color to paint your bedroom/office.

Plan a vacation together.

Who doesn’t love a vacation? Sit down together and brainstorm ideas for the next trip you two will embark on together. Nothing brings you closer than a out-of-town adventure. My boyfriend and I just got back from Savannah a couple of days ago, and we had an absolute blast! If this is out of your budget, plan a faux vacation and pick out all of the places you’d go and attractions you’d want to see. Whether it be to Europe or the Caribbean islands, the possibilities are truly endless!

Savannah is such a charming, romantic little town.

I hope your indoor date night is nothing less than spectacular. Hosting an indoor date night is one of my favorite ways to celebrate togetherness, because it’s fun, relaxing, and allows us the opportunity to get to know each other a little better. However, no matter how you celebrate togetherness, I think we can all agree that summer is full of good times.
