Homemade Honeybread Recipe

For the majority of us, the new year symbolizes a time to reflect on our past, and create goals for our future. While should never stop trying to better ourselves, I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes these resolutions are a little unrealistic. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve vowed to completely eradicate anything that isn’t healthy (sugar, caffeine, carbs) from my diet. More times than not, I fail to follow through with this. And why should we be forced to sludge through our lives being denied the simple pleasures that we love, anyway? With that being said, I’ve decided to make a conscious effort to simply cut down on the sweets this year. Fortunately, this still allows me to indulge in the occasional dessert. Today, I am sharing with you how to make honey bread, one of my favorite sweet treats, and a recipe that has been passed down in my family for generations!

Total prep time: 10 minutes
Total cook time: 20 minutes
Ready in: 30 minutes

Homemade Honeybread Recipe

    Mix together:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/8 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Sift together:
  • 2 cups flower
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Icing:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In no particular order, mix together wet and dry ingredients. If you don't have a sifter, no worries, they taste just as good without it!
  3. Spray 9"x13" pan with cooking spray. Drop dough into the pan and press flat.
  4. Cook for 20 minutes. While the cookies are in the oven, mix together the powdered sugar, mayonnaise, and milk to make the icing.
  5. Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool for 5-10 minutes. While the cookies are still warm, spread the icing evenly on top.

This sounds delicious! I have a similar resolution this year – eat less cookies. I agree trying not to eat any cookies at all is unrealistic for me at this point. 🙂

The problem with making goals like that is that they never last! It’s so much easier to try and limit yourself vs. cutting something out of your diet completely! 🙂
