The holidays are, without a doubt, my favorite time of the year. I have always been a giver, so naturally Christmas makes me extraordinarily happy in that sense; I get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside seeing a person’s face light up when they receive a gift. While most people prepare for the holidays by buying presents for friends and family, this year I decided to splurge on my furry, four-legged companion, Mocha. I will still bestow upon my loved ones an assortment of fabulous gifts, of course, but I really went the extra mile in curating Mocha’s gift basket (yes, she will be receiving an entire basket of goodies) this holiday season. She’s quirky, she’s fun, and my world is indubitably a better place because she’s in it. I can recall the day she crawled into my lap – and heart – like it was just yesterday. She has filled my life with complete, utter joy since that gloomy, frigid afternoon, and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to love another animal with the same fervor.
I’m a sucker for a good bargain, so this year I opted to peruse my local Dollar General for pet-friendly holiday treats. It just so happened that the nearest one was a mere mile and a half from Andrew and I’s new apartment, making this mission a triumphant and convenient one. I was immediately drawn to the home goods section, vetting the aisle in it’s entirety. A chocolate-colored basket caught my eye, and after observing the $4 price tag and deciding it was just too good of a deal to pass up, it was catapulted into my shopping cart. I stumbled down a few more aisles before making my way to the pet section of the store, where I was greeted by heaps of different brands, products, and goodies. Mocha’s not very picky, but I came armed with knowledge of her taste buds and picked out a few bags of treats that I believed she would like. I’d also like to point out that not a single bag I picked up was more than $2 (WHAAAAAA? No, but seriously). She’s very fond of chew toys (aren’t all dogs?), so I proceeded to grab on on the way out. Regardless of what you’re searching for this holiday season, Dollar General undoubtedly has a deal for you.
When I returned home, I compiled all of the products into the nifty little basket I scored earlier on in the trip. Mocha’s holiday gift basket was comprised of the following: Milk-Bone Soft & Chewy Chicken Recipe, Canine Carry Outs Beef & Cheese Flavor, Pup-Peroni Mix Stix, and her brand new chew toy, which looks extremely similar to a candy-cane. I utilized a festive green and red garland for decoration, albeit it was removed shortly after debuting the basket for fear that it would be ingested along with the treats. I happen to think she thoroughly enjoyed it, but I’ll let you guys decipher that through the pictures.
This gift basket was super easy (and fun) to make, and Mocha was delighted to unearth the contents of it. This holiday season, don’t forget that pets deserve a little lovin’, too! Did ya’ll come up with any fun DIY gifts for your pets? Comment below and let me know — Happy Holidays!
