As I get ready to check another venture off my bucket list, I would like to reiterate the importance of being prepared. I’ve lost count of how many vacations I have been on over the years where I’d have to run off to the drug store to purchase a toothbrush, or borrow a jacket, because I unconsciously forgot one. In an effort to solve this problem, I’ve devised a packing list of travel essentials that every girl should have stowed away in her luggage. When I travel, I carry my Vera Bradley Weekender Bag because it is totes adorable and is large enough to fit a small child in. It also fits into the measurements allowed for a carry-on, so it’s perfect for the girl who is on-the-go!
6 Travel Essentials That Every Girl Needs
My wallet is typically the very first thing I pack, as I would be lost without it. I make sure that I have my credit cards, drivers license, insurance card, AAA card for when disaster strikes while you’re on the road, and a small amount of cash for emergencies. If you’re traveling out of the country, a passport is a necessity, as well.
2. Beauty Bag
Although I recently opted to tone down the makeup that I wear on a day-to-day basis, I like to have everything I might need with me on vacation. You never know when you’re going to end up at a five star restaurant and potentially run into your future husband. My must-have beauty products are mascara, foundation, lipstick (and chapstick if the weather is going to be chilly), eyeliner, and blush. I also throw all of my toiletries into my beauty bag as well: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, contacts, and a brush.
3. Appropriate Clothing
When I say appropriate clothing, what I really mean is that if you are going on a week-long skiing trip to the Colorado mountains, it’s imperative to pack warm clothing. If you’re spending the weekend in the Bahamas, pack a bikini (or 5). Make sure you have the necessities: tops, bottoms, socks, undergarments, tights, and jackets (depending on the weather).
4. Electronic Gadgets
You know you’re living in the 21st century when you can’t live with your electronics. This includes (but is not limited to): my cell phone, my laptop, my camera, and appropriate chargers for all of them.
Whether you are road tripping or traveling via a metal tube in the sky, you should have something to keep you occupied for the ride. I usually pack a couple of magazines, my favorite movies, a journal for doodling/drawing in, and my planner, so I can pretend like I’m more organized than I really am.
Arguably the most essential item – it’s vital to make sure you are fed at all times, not just your own sanity, but also for the sake of the people you are traveling with. Nobody wants to deal with me when I am hungry, I can assure you that. When I’m on the road, I typically pack chips, cookies, granola bars, lunchables (you’re never too old), and various bags of candy.
Can’t forget the most important item of all – Mocha! She’s the ultimate travel buddy.

I’m leaving for Tennessee next week, and to say that I’m excited would truly be an understatement. I get to see snow (hopefully) for the first time in ten years – so needless to say there will be countless snowball fights in order. What are some of your travel essentials?!
