As I get ready to check another city off my bucket list, I’d like to take a few moments to reiterate the importance of being prepared. I’ve lost count of how many vacations I’ve been on over the years where I’d have to run to the drug store to purchase a toothbrush or shampoo, or even worse, borrow an article of clothing because I unconsciously forgot one. In an effort to solve this problem, I’ve devised a handy-dandy packing list of travel essentials that every girl should have when traveling, be it by air, train or car. Whenever I embark on trips, I always make sure to bring my Vera Bradley Weekender Bag with me. It’s absolutely adorable, but also fits into the measurements allowed for a carry-on, so it’s perfect for the girl who is always on the go!

6 Travel Essentials That Every Girl Needs

1.  Wallet

My wallet is typically the very first thing I pack, as I would be lost without it. I make sure that I have all of my credit cards, as well as my drivers license, insurance card, AAA card for when disaster inevitably strikes while you’re on the road, and a small amount of cash for emergencies. If you’re traveling out of the country, a passport is a necessity.

2.  Beauty Bag

Although I recently opted to tone down the amount of makeup that I wear on a day-to-day basis, I like to bring everything I might need with me on vacation, just in case. You never know when you’re going to end up at a five star restaurant and/or potentially run into your future husband. My go-to beauty products are mascara, foundation, lipstick (and chapstick if the weather is going to be chilly), eyeliner, and blush. I also throw all of my toiletries into my beauty bag as well: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, contacts, and a travel-sized hair brush.

3.  Appropriate Clothing

When I say appropriate clothing, what I really mean is that if you are going on a week-long skiing trip to the Colorado mountains, it’s imperative to pack warm clothing. If you’re spending the weekend in the Bahamas, pack a bikini (or 5). Make sure you have the necessities: tops, bottoms, socks, undergarments, tights, and jackets (depending on the weather).

4.  Electronic Gadgets

You know you’re living in the 21st century when you can’t live with your electronics. This includes (but is not limited to): my cell phone, my laptop, my camera, and the accompanying chargers for all of them.

5.  Entertainment

Whether you are road tripping or traveling via a big metal tube in the sky, you should always have something to keep you occupied for the ride. I usually pack a couple of magazines, my favorite movies, a journal for doodling/drawing in, and my planner, so I can obsessively plan my upcoming weeks/months (Type A personality problems).

6.  Snacks

Snacks are, in my opinion, the most essential item on this list. It’s imperative to make sure you are fed at all times, not just your own sanity, but also for the sake of the people you are traveling with. Nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to deal with me when I am hungry, I can assure you that. While I’m on the road, I typically pack chips, cookies, granola bars, lunch-ables (you’re never too old), and various bags of candy. Diets go out the window when you’re on vacation.

Can’t forget the most important item of all: Mocha! She’s the ultimate travel buddy.

I’m leaving for Tennessee next week and to say that I’m excited would be an understatement. I get to see snow (hopefully) for the first time in ten years, so I’m hoping there will be a couple of snowball fights and/or snow angels in my very near future. What are some of your travel essentials?!

I tend to pack as light as possible, but you’re right that all of these are essential! Love the bag and your pup 🙂

Spacious travel bag indeed! I think your Mocha and me could fit inside ;p ;p
Me too, I usually have a detailed list of what to bring, put it in a fridge magnet and slowly ticking it off a week earlier.

Having a detailed list definitely helps when you’re packing for a vacation – it’s the worst when you arrive somewhere to find out you’ve forgotten something!
